High-quality product visuals are a must for online sales success. In the digital space, shoppers can’t touch, taste, or smell your products, so your images and video content need to do all the selling.

This guide explains how to create eye-catching product photos and videos for your Flowwow profile, even without a studio or pricey equipment. It’s perfect for sellers who want to improve the quality of their visuals! Need to refresh Flowwow’s basic content requirements? Check out our guide on card moderation and item listing.

Flowwow’s Top Tips: Mastering Product Photography

Discover how to capture attention with your product images.

Photos and the Shooting Process

Background

Place your product on a neutral background: for example, white or coloured card, poster board, fabric, wallpaper, or simply a clean spot on a table. It’s important to choose a space with good lighting so that your images are natural, clear, free from unnecessary shadows or glare, and require minimal editing.

Lighting

Indoor lighting can cast a yellowish hue on your photos and make them appear dark, which won’t pass moderation. To ensure even and consistent lighting, use artificial light sources such as desk lamps, LED strips, or a lightbox (a specialised device for product photography, perfect for jewellery and desserts). This prevents unwanted shadows and reflections in your images.

Flowers pop best in even light without harsh shadows. For a perfect image, try shooting in soft, natural light. If natural light is unavailable, it’s easy to DIY it. Use two lamps: one in front to light up your bouquet, and another behind to give it some depth and separate it from the background.

To ensure clear and focused shots, use a smartphone tripod (ideally with a remote control to prevent camera shake) or a stack of books. The key is to provide a stable base for your phone or camera.

Props

Try adding props to your photos. For example, if you have candles with delicate floral scents, use items that evoke a sense of softness: flowing fabrics, pastel colours, feathers. This will create a beautiful and atmospheric image and make your product stand out.

Angles

Let’s talk about the best angles for your product shots. Here’s a quick breakdown by categories:

  1. Flowers — close and personal: in someone’s hands or styled in a room to give customers a clear understanding of their size
  2. Cakes and treats — shots from above and the side; be sure to show a slice, too, to highlight the filling
  3. Jewellery and accessories — on a model or display stand
  4. Home goods — within the interior of the room for which the product is intended, creating a sense of warmth and comfort and demonstrating the product’s utility

How to Edit Your Photos Using AI

Flowwow doesn’t allow content with excessive retouching or aggressive colour correction, as we prioritise transparency: both photos and videos should accurately represent the product’s colour. Minimal editing is acceptable, such as removing unnecessary objects or shadows in the background and adjusting colour and light to highlight the product.

To save time, you can use AI tools. They will help you edit photos quickly and efficiently. Here are a few you can try:

  1. Luminar AI, Luminar Neo — powerful tools for editing light and shadows. Use them for lighting adjustment, colour correction, and image enhancement, creating realistic or artistic effects
  2. Removal.AI — this tool was designed to quickly remove backgrounds from images. Perfect for preparing product photos, portraits, and other images where you need to isolate the subject from the background
  3. Prisma Labs (Lensa) — a versatile editor that allows you to change backgrounds, add filters and artistic effects, improve image quality, and make your photos more expressive
  4. Adobe Photoshop — its filters help enhance image sharpness and quality for clear product details, remove defects and noise for a cleaner image, and adjust lighting and colour for a natural and appealing look. You can also change the background or blur it to highlight the foreground

Video

For videos, we recommend using the same tools and tips we suggested for photos. However, there are a few specific requirements to keep in mind:

  1. Video duration: up to 30 seconds
  2. Size: up to 100MB, with a vertical orientation
  3. One video = one product
  4. You can add a voiceover to describe your product, but ensure it’s clear and free from background noise
  5. Videos can be edited in a TikTok or Reels format or kept as a single shot
  6. Avoid excessive editing, harsh retouching, abrupt transitions, and unnecessary details. Remember, your goal is to showcase your product’s best features

Videos that are low-quality, blurry, too dark or too bright, shaky, or have excessive noise will not be approved during moderation.

Conclusion

Creating high-quality visual content is key to selling successfully on Flowwow. Great photos not only showcase your products in the best light but also build trust with potential customers. Use natural light, minimise retouching, and experiment with different angles to create eye-catching visuals that will pass moderation, attract customers, and help you stand out.
